Exploring Nauvoo

For the rest of the day, we visited many shops and homes in "Cauvoo"- as Tori has been calling it.  In each, we learned something of the way of life in pioneer times.  I am even more grateful for all of the modern conveniences we have been so very blessed with, after discovering how long things took, or how hard they were to accomplish!  We were able to visit the Stoddard Tin Shop, the Browning Home and Gunsmith Shop,  the Print Shop, Brigham Young's home, the Webb Brothers' Blacksmith Shop- where we each got a prairie diamond (a ring made out of a horseshoe nail), and the Family Living Center where we got to eat bread that had been cooked just as the pioneers did it!
At the Post Office we learned that it cost 25 cents to send a letter.  That didn't seem too bad until we were informed that the average day's wage was only 1 dollar- pretty steep for one letter!  (Dad and Charlene- this picture is for you!!!)
I absolutely loved visiting the Monument to Women Garden- it was so beautiful!  I must admit that I got a little teary-eyed looking at all of the statues and requested a few pictures in this garden with my children.  This was my favorite one!!!
The Historic Nauvoo Visitor's Center was such a peaceful place for us to take a few moments to rest and feel the spirit!  I love this picture of Jared and Tori!
The Brickyard was a very neat visit- it is amazing how long, and how much care, it took to make bricks back in pioneer times.  While waiting for our tour, we met a cute little family that was in the pageant!  Here are Jared and Tori with our very own Nauvoo brick to take home!
No matter how many times we corrected her, Tori kept calling this the "bookyard!"
All day long Tori had been asking to go see the temple.  After dinner, we finally made it there!  Tori was in heaven to be so close to a temple!!!  We can't wait until the temple in Indianapolis is finally built and dedicated!
The whole day, and especially when we were on the temple grounds, Tori kept saying, "temple with Moroni on top" and "sun and stars" - she loved the sun and star stones on the facade!
Across the street from the temple there is a Joseph and Hyrum Smith Memorial.  When Tori saw it she said, "horsies need water and go inside," pointing to the temple!  What a crazy girl we have, but how nice that she was looking out for those horsies!
Garrett and Jared in from of this beautiful statue of Joseph and Hyrum Smith!
Check it out- Garrett's rash is gone!!!
I love this picture of our family!  But in the future, I need to make sure that our very useful and very plaid stroller is not in the shot!
Our family in front of the Nauvoo Temple!!!
It's no wonder that Nauvoo has been referred to as the "City Beautiful!"
Our day in Nauvoo was absolutely wonderful!!! Now, on to the pageant!
